Music Ministry

Music at Summer Lutheran Church is a very important part of the worship experiences we offer. Summer is a congregation that loves to sing the old, the current, and they never back away from something new.

The Chancel Choir is made up of volunteer singers. We sing almost every Sunday of the year. Sometime during the year, we usually do a "cantata". This is usually around the first part of January and we emphasize Epiphany. We have also done Easter cantatas and this year we are doing one after Easter based on the Gospel of Matthew. The Chancel Choir works very hard at our weekly rehearsals. They are a remarkable group of people, but the neat thing is, there is always room for more.

Summerchimers are ringers in our 3 octave Handbell Choir. This group meets weekly and we ring on special festivals, hymns, and just for fun. This group is made up of the young to the older. We enjoy learning our music and playing in worship.

There is also a group called KIDZBELLS. This is a group that meets intermittently, and we ring when we can. This group is made up of the tiniest ringers up to third grade. It is our hope that this group will continue to grow.

We use many different supplements in our worship service. We enjoy reading and singing the psalms. We change the service setting regularly. Some years we take the service and fill all components with the congregation’s favorite hymns. We hang the Greens at Advent, we strip the altar on Maundy Thursday, We nail the nails in the cross on Good Friday and we rejoice in the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Not only are these the big festivals we also, celebrate Epiphany, Lent, Pentecost and Christ the King.

There is always something new, different, and inspiring in our worship services. All of these blessings are supported by a congregation that loves to sing. There is no other congregation that sings with so much heart. It is absolutely amazing.
