Backpack Ministry 2019-2020

This will provide weekend food for 10 students at Boundary Street Elementary School for 36 weeks of the school year. This is the 6th year we will sponsor this ministry to feed some community children who might otherwise be without sufficient food over the weekend.

Donations are now being accepted. This will be an ongoing project through May 2020. Check should be made to SMLC Backpack Ministry. You may also give through your regular offering envelope marking it as Backpack Ministry.

Other projects and ongoing activities from last year (2018) included:

  • Used phones that can be programmed for emergency use were collected for sister care and delivered to our Newberry source.
  • Used optical glasses were collected and delivered to our source at the Lion’s club.
  • Baby hats were knitted for Newberry County hospital.
  • Twenty backpacks were assembled for Boundary Street Elementary school each week. We pay for ten backpacks, and harvest hope matches our contributions.

  • A meal was served to the Newberry High School football team before a home game. Members of the congregation donated money for food, prepared food, and/or served the meal.
