d. It shall provide the congregation with opportunities for fellowship among themselves, and between the congregation and the community at large.”
- Summer Memorial Church Constitution
We have fellowship here at Summer a lot whether it’s Summer Tymers, Fifth Sunday Fun, Homecoming, or Steak Supper. We get together a lot around the meal table and that takes some organizing to make sure we can set a place for everyone. Often, the Hospitality Committee will work with another group to make sure everything is covered for a meal. All in all, Hospitality makes sure all considerations for meals are covered.
What does this work look like? Working with other committees to plan meals during the year. Keeping track of when meals are happening in the Fellowship Hall. Making sure the kitchen stays stocked with supplies ahead of meals. Helping with the organization of church events. Connecting with people who want to use the fellowship hall and making sure they have what they need.
Welcoming others to the table is constantly lifted up throughout scripture. Jesus teaches and builds relationships around food. Sharing a meal together not only forms new bonds, but it helps to strengthen the ties we have. In showing hospitality to all, we help take care of our community.
